Broken Crayons = New Crayons

My little girl loves to color but she usually ends up breaking at least one crayon each time that she uses them. I had a small pile of broken crayons in the drawer tonight and decided to make new ones with the broken pieces.
First, I removed the paper form the crayons and placed them in a heart shaped mini muffin pan. While I was removing the paper the oven was preheating to 350.
I put the muffin pan in the oven and turned it off. Once the crayons melted and looked like they do in the picture below. I removed them from the oven and put them in the freezer. I'm not sure how long they are supposed to go in the freezer for but I didn't take them out for 45 minutes. I'm sure you can take them out once they seem to be solid.
I took them out of the muffin pan and tried to use them on paper. They color a variety of colors and will be fun to use.
The real test will be to see what the 20 month old artist thinks of her 11 new heart shaped crayons tomorrow.
