Tulle Top & Tutu Outfit

I made this outfit for my 21 month old daughter last week. I hosted a black and red bridal shower on Saturday and remembered that I needed something for her to wear just a day or two before the shower. I can usually make a tutu from start to finish in under 30 minutes so I knew that would be part of the outfit.
I saw a tutorial on a blog about making a shirt using tulle for an adult last week. If anyone finds that post please let me know and I will link it here. I have spent the last hour searching for it and I can't find it but I would love to give her credit for inspiring me to come up with this for my little one. Anyway, the 1st thing I did was a little sponge panting on the t-shirt.
Once the paint was dry (only 15 minutes) I punched up a 6 inch wide piece of tulle and placed it on the shirt. I sewed it on with a zigzag stitch. I also used a different color bobbin and thread to give it some dimension and a bit of a creative flare.
After the black tulle was secured I attached each red piece of tulle to the shirt. I bunched them up and started at the center and worked in a circular motion until they formed a flower like shape. I used different lengths of tulle for each flower because I wanted them to be different sizes.
I sewed each flower down with 2 or 3 different areas of stitching. I also went back and forth over each area to give it a thicker look to the line.
When I was finished I placed the tutu and shirt with a pair of cropped leggings. I am happy with the way it turned out and it was a fast and pretty simple project. I'll probably be making similar outfits like this or shirts in the future.
Here is my daughter at the end of the shower with some of the necklaces from one of the games that we played. It's not the best picture but you can see the front of the shirt...a little bit.
Check back later this week for pictures from the black and red bridal shower and the candy buffet.
